In Memoriam: Mamak Shahbazi

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Mamak Shahbazi, who served as President, Director, and Global Head of Marketing of Colchester from 2001 to 2019. A founding member of Colchester Global Investors, under her leadership, the firm’s global coverage grew meaningfully touching clients all over the world. Mamak earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland in the US. Her expertise in engineering lent itself well to fixed income management and made her a uniquely effective advisor to institutional investors. Mamak’s drive to deliver the best possible outcomes for clients was a hallmark of her professional life.

Earlier in her career, Mamak made her mark in several notable roles: she was Director of Institutional Marketing at Zweig-DiMenna Associates, where she led the institutional marketing and client service efforts. Prior to that, she served as Director of Global Bond Marketing and Client Service at Delaware Investment Advisors and also worked at Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. as Director of Fixed Income Investments. After leaving Colchester, Mamak joined the Commonfund Board in 2019. Over the course of her career, she built and led high-performing marketing and client service teams, developed strong client and consultant relationships, and was an accomplished investment executive.

Mamak’s presence, wisdom, and warmth will be fondly remembered by her colleagues at Colchester. She made a meaningful contribution to the firm and helped make Colchester what it is today. It is therefore with much sadness that we share this news with you all.
